CultureSource is the Bloomberg Arts Internship program partner for Detroit. The BAI program places rising Detroit high school seniors in paid internships at our arts and culture member organizations.

The 8-week summer program provides students with creative career-path exposure and college-prep experiences, and it will provide our members with resources to support youth and attend to their own workforce development needs. In addition to work placement, interns will participate in cultural site visits and curriculum days focusing on writing, leadership, financial literacy, public communication, college readiness, and more.

This program is designed to simultaneously invest in the long-term workforce development of the Southeast Michigan cultural sector, and provide rich, pre-college educational experiences for promising Detroit youth.

Program Details

  • Worksites will receive a $2,000 stipend per intern
  • Interns will receive an 8-week paid work placement (salaries for all 25 interns paid by CultureSource)
  • Interns will be rising seniors from Detroit public and charter schools
  • Interns will work on-site three days per week. The remaining two days will be dedicated to cultural site visits and curriculum days (coordinated by CultureSource).
  • Interns will be provided with funds to cover all work related expenses (transport, meals, etc.)
  • Interns will have a range of backgrounds, and an interest in being introduced to arts careers.

Training & Support for Worksites
CultureSource and Neutral Zone host a mandatory workshop for worksites to learn about equitable practices for working with youth. Worksites will also receive coaching to develop a summer project for interns. The summer project is a crucial link between the program’s professional development experience and worksite experience.

Host a Cultural Visit
Organizations who don’t have the capacity to host interns but still want to get involved can receive a $1,000 stipend to host a full-day, immersive cultural visit for interns.
