Teaching Artist - Boys Visual Arts Program
Youth Arts: Unlocked
Part Time, 90 minutes (teaching) per week
Youth Arts: Unlocked is looking for a teaching artist for our boys visual arts workshops at Genesee County’s youth detention facility, GVRC. Workshops are on Tuesday evenings from 6-7:30pm.
Job duties include: preparing and teaching engaging visual arts workshops for detained youth, ten to seventeen years of age; developing students’ interest in and ability for visual creative expression, using skills and techniques consistent with Youth Arts: Unlocked’s mission; fostering students’ understanding of and appreciation for varied visual art forms from diverse communities; curating gallery exhibits; and, creating and maintaining an inclusive, supportive and trauma-informed learning environment.
Education Requirements / Certification:
- Associate’s degree in Arts/ or Criminal Justice/Social Sciences – required
- Bachelor’s degree in Arts/ or Criminal Justice/Social Sciences – preferred
Preferred Requirements / Experience:
- Two years’ work experience in a visual arts field; including, but not limited to internships or independent studies and volunteer positions.
- One year experience teaching or working directly with at-risk and/or disadvantaged youth.
