The Education Programs Coordinator is a member of the education team and is responsible for the creation, planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of education programs and experiences at Edsel & Eleanor Ford House. This position will primarily focus on humanities related programming. Salary range: $40,000 to $50,000.
Responsibilities & Goals:
- Works with Director of Education and other Education Department colleagues, to develop and execute interpretive programs for all audiences; including planning, managing and coordinating (including, but not limited to) programs, workshops, interpretive tours, and exhibit-related experiences.
- Ensures that programs are based on EEFH’s resources, education philosophy, methodology and strategic/master plans.
- Effectively presents information to respond to visitors’ needs, including school, college, adult and intergenerational audiences.
- Re-design, upgrade and expand current offerings.
- Develops and fosters relationships with community partnerships.
- Works as either a team member or as project leader on education department initiatives, including but not limited to, exhibits, large ground events, etc.
- Increases visitor participation by producing dynamic programs and experiences related to the museum’s mission, collection, strategic plan, exhibitions and/or the organization’s target audiences.
- Works closely with other departments on event scheduling, purchase or rental of equipment and materials, staffing, logistics, marketing, fund-raising, etc.
- Works as a member of the education team to collaborate on organization-wide learning and education initiatives.
- Develops and implements evaluation tools to measure, interpret, and analyze the outcomes of education and public programs relative to strategic goals.
- Develops and manages budget for programs under personal purview.
- Stays current with educational practices and scholarship; represent the museum at public forums, including public talks and other presentations.
- Weekend and evening work to oversee and facilitate programs is required.
- A Bachelor’s degree in history, museum studies, American studies, education, or a closely related field, a Master’s degree is preferable.
- A minimum of three years of professional work experience in the planning and delivery of learning experiences at a museum or cultural site.
- Ability to think creatively and employ out of the box thinking about educational and learning experiences.
- Outstanding written communication skills including the ability to write effectively for a variety of ages and backgrounds.
- Excellent verbal communication and customer service skills and the ability to work effectively as a member of a highly energized, creative team
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and to prioritize and organize work effectively.
- Budget management experience and demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Suite.
- Initiative, good judgment, and the ability to work well independently.
- Must be able to lift up to 10 lbs. and physically move about the buildings and grounds of the estate.
- Strong interactive learning, teaching and training skills and knowledge of current education trends and museum methodology are desirable.
